Air conditioning without outdoor unit? It is possible with a monoblock
A more comfortable indoor climate that always has the perfect temperature — that’s something we all want. A split air conditioner might seem like the ideal solution, but then you find out it’s not an option for your home. For example, because you don’t have permission from the HOA of your apartment complex, or you have to comply with regulations because you live in a listed building. Do you want to enjoy the benefits of a split air conditioner, but can't or don’t want to install an outdoor unit? Don’t worry — you don’t necessarily have to give up the advantages of a dual-unit air conditioner.
What types of air conditioners are there?
There are various types of air conditioners, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. We’re happy to introduce you to the most well-known ones: the mobile air conditioner, split air conditioner, and monoblock air conditioner.
A mobile air conditioner is versatile, works efficiently, and can be used in almost any room you like. Nearly all mobile AC units come with an exhaust hose that expels warm air through a door or window. Air coolers operate without a hose but offer slightly less intensive cooling.
A split unit air conditioner is significantly more powerful than a mobile AC and consists of at least two units: one installed inside the house and the other mounted outside the building. With a multi-split system, a single outdoor unit can support multiple indoor units for climate control. These systems can cool, heat, dehumidify, and purify the air. They are generally energy-efficient but require both indoor and outdoor space. If this is not feasible for your home, don’t worry — there’s still good news.
Monoblock air conditioners are the perfect middle ground if you're unable to install an outdoor unit. They cool, heat, and purify the air — all in one device, without the need for a second unit or a nearby window. While slightly less powerful than split units, they still offer a complete climate control solution.

Is a monoblock air conditioner the best choice for you?
A monoblock is highly versatile, as it can be used in many different situations. Do you have limited outdoor space, for example because you live in an apartment without a balcony? Or do you live in a listed building and need to comply with regulations regarding the exterior appearance? In that case, a monoblock is an ideal form of air conditioning.

Cool your flat with a monoblock air conditioner
In most apartments, there isn’t a lot of space to install multiple units. That’s why a monoblock is the perfect solution. It consists of just one unit, which you can place almost anywhere. If you have to comply with strict regulations from the homeowners’ association (HOA) regarding the exterior of your apartment building, a monoblock allows you to bypass these restrictions. However, always make sure to check the HOA’s requirements and the rules you must follow as a resident before purchasing a device like this.
Monoblock Use in Listed or Historic Buildings
Do you live in a beautiful listed or historic building? Then you probably don’t want a modern outdoor unit mounted on the wall — and in most cases, you're not even allowed to install one, even if you own the property. Preserving the original appearance of such buildings is essential, and an air conditioner’s outdoor unit simply doesn’t fit that image.
Historic buildings are often less well insulated, which means air conditioning can be a welcome addition throughout the year. In that case, a monoblock air conditioner is an excellent solution. It provides efficient heating and cooling without requiring any external unit, allowing you to maintain the integrity of the building’s façade.
